Before you start, find out how to protect yourself and your family by contacting the National Lead Information Center at 1-800-424-LEAD or log on to GENERAL INFORMATION Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop.   • Dispose of contaminated absorbent, container and unused product in accordance with all current federal, state and local regulations.

  • Clean all tools and equipment with warm, soapy water.
  • Longer dry time may be required in cooler temperatures and higher humidity.
  • Shelf life under normal conditions is two years unopened.
  • For oil-based stains pretreat wood with an oil-based pre-stain wood conditioner. Allow Pre-Stain Conditioner to dry for up to 20 minutes before applying Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines Water-Based Wood Stain. Sand lightly prior to staining to remove grain raise. Allow to penetrate between 5 to 10 minutes and then wipe off any excess with a clean, dry cloth. Use a nylon or nylon/polyester brush or a saturated clean cloth and apply liberally to all areas of the wood surface including edges. A tack cloth can be useful in removing all dust from the surface. Surface must be sanded smooth and remove all dust prior to stain application.
  • Previously Finished Wood: Strip the surface completely down to bare wood with a paint or varnish remover, making sure all previous finishes are removed.
  • Sand smooth and remove all dust prior to stain application. Always sand in the direction of the wood grain.
  • New Wood: Sand the wood thoroughly with medium grit sandpaper and progress to fine grit sand paper (#180 – 220 grit).
  • All surfaces must be clean, free of dust, oil, grease, wax, polish, glue and all other foreign substances.
